C H A R A C T E R;
NAME: Jester Lavorre
CANON: Critical Role (Season 2: The Mighty Nein)
POINT IN CANON: Beginning of Episode 25, before they actually go into the prison
AGE: around twenty-ish?
APPEARANCE: This cutie
CANON HISTORY: WIKI LINK
CANON PERSONALITY: So here’s the thing about Jester: she wasn’t, actually, born with the name ‘Jester.’ What her actual birth name is, we still don’t know, but what we do know is that Jester named herself that for a very specific reasons: she wants to be happy and she wants to make other people happy. And honestly? She’s doing a pretty good job on that.

Jester’s an incredibly bright and optimistic person. She’s fun-loving and extremely excitable--and very much the kind of person who will follow where her whims take her, whether it is use thaumaturgy to open all the windows, to play detective with Nott, or to jump into a bar fight with Beau just for shits and giggles. She’s more than a little eccentric and quite imaginative and willing to pointedly believe in weird and absurd things--like the existence of hamster-sized unicorns--just because life is more interesting that way.

Jester is blunt. Not in a mean way, per se, but if you stink (CALEB), she’ll blithely tell you that you stink. If she’s tired of having to cure people all the time instead of using her fun spells--and for a cleric, Jester is remarkably disinclined to heal--she’ll complain up a storm about it.

She’s also sometimes a bit tone-deaf when it comes to how normal people live. You see, Jester grew up rich. Very, very rich. Her mother, Marion, is the famed courtesan known as the Ruby of the Sea--known far and wide as the best lay ever. Jester’s childhood was very much a privileged one--but also a lonely one. She wasn’t able to leave her room very much and her best friend was a person that only she could see: the Traveler. One would assume this meant he was her imaginary friend, but one would be mistaken. The Traveler is Jester’s god and she is quite devoted to him--and honestly, a bit emotionally dependent on him, given how for so long he wasn’t just her best friend but her only friend. She is also quite eager to spread his good word to others and since he is a god of chaos, mischief, and trickery, those are qualities that Jester tries to cultivate in herself. She’s especially good at chaos and mischief.

Because of her lonely childhood, Jester still has a lot of hidden insecurities and secret sadnesses. Those insecurities lead her to act clingy and jealous around Fjord, who she has been crushing on for nearly as long as she’s know him. And when the rest of her friends can’t come to the Pillow Trove with her at the start of their stay in Zadash, when she finds that her mother’s letter still isn’t there, she deflates. Once again, she’s alone in the middle of luxury.

She really hates that.

ANYTHING ELSE WE SHOULD KNOW? LET ME KNOW IF HER VARIOUS SPELLS NEED TO BE TURNED INTO SKILL EQUIVALENCIES. Actually, wait, can divine casters even CAST in Liminal Space, considering that Jester will be cut off from her god??? Or would Fortune/Moon/Whoever still cover for the trickery domain?

M A R K S;
JUSTIFICATION: FOOL - Jester has an open and pure heart and an incredibly spontaneous nature.
MAGICIAN - Jester is a bouncing ball of energy and creativity.
LOVERS - Jester is a great romantic. She’s also the heart of the Mighty Nein.
FORTUNE - Jester is often moving. She enjoys surprises and sees possibilities.

VETO: EMPEROR and JUSTICE are much too dour Arcana for a loveable ball of chaos like Jester.

S A M P L E S;
ACTIONSPAM SAMPLE: Test Drive
PROSE SAMPLE: [Based on test drive prompt #62.]

There were hamsters in the machines. Tiny, damp cloth ones, that made squeaky noises and smelled like soap.

They were the most adorable creatures Jester had ever seen.

“You are so cool!” she tells the red one, with markings that remind her of Molly’s coat. “The only thing that would make you cooler is if you were unicorns.”

Jester takes a moment to consider how she could attach unicorn horns to the little damp cloth hamsters. Some string, of course, to tie around their cute little heads… but what the make the horns out of? She thinks about maybe carving one out of soap, but with the cloth hamsters so damp, would the soap eventually just wear away to nothing? Especially with half the machines being full of water half the time.

“Maybe wax?” she thinks out loud. “Except those other machines are full of warm air. That would just melt.”

Bleh. Turning cloth hamsters into cloth unicorn hamsters was a lot harder than it sounded.

“Maybe Caleb knows a spell to give you a horn,” Jester tells the Molly’s coat hamster. “I think he’s learning Transfiguration magic. Or maybe I could take you to Pumat Sol and he’ll have something for you in the Invulnerable Vagrant.”

That could be fun! It was always fun introducing people to the Pumats. They made such funny faces. Jester figured even cloth hamsters would.

“Of course,” she tells the little cloth hamster. “I’d have to find my way back to everyone first. I wonder where they are. I wonder where I am.” Jester bites her lip. “I hope they didn’t forget about me,” she adds in a much smaller voice.
